Charles II Ballad George Monck |
Notes: | No imprint, so no information on printer, publisher, place or date of publication. London suggested by Wing. The Bodleian copy (digitised on EEBO) is dated 'ffeb: 1659'. Given the poem's celebration of Monck, this is probably from February 1660. Although it principally praises Monck, this ballad also alludes several time to the prospect of Charles Stuart's return to England to re-claim his rightful title. |
