The Mayflower made in song, Chalk Farm Baptist Church, North London (1920)

Description

This Mayflower celebration in 1920 was utterly tiny, but took a very unusual and rather charming form. The Baptist Church Sunday School brought its young scholars together to demonstrate the building of the Mayflower ship to the accompaniment of song. The Superintendent, Mr Clarke, led the group of young people – including adolescents, who came in unusually large numbers – in solos and choruses “to illustrate every plank laid and sail hoisted in the building of the ‘Mayflower’”. In the space of an hour, the “stately-looking vessel” took shape.
