A shipment of tobacco, wine, oil, and other goods from Civitavecchia to Malta. The vessel sailed from Civitavecchia on 8 December 1721 and reached Anzio two days later, but was pinned there for three weeks by relentless winds, forcing the crew to lie at anchor until 1 January 1722. The vessel then resumed course and faced more contrary winds as it sailed past Ponza, causing the crew to seek temporary refuge at Baiae for two to three more days. The vessel sailed from Baia on 7 January and passed by the Gulf of Salerno where, on the night of 8–9 January, it faced strong north and north-east winds that shredded the mainsail and topsail, sprang the main?mast, and created stormy seas that resulted in the ingress of three palms of water. The crew jettisoned the ship's stove, four swivel?guns, the spare anchor, two hawsers, four casks of wine, a barrel of oil, three quintals of biscuit, about three quintals of rope?tobacco, a chest of new clothing, and an unidentified bale of cargo goods. The strong winds forced the vessel off-course towards the Barbary coast but then a shift to a south-east winds allowed it to make way to Sardinia. The vessel docked in Cagliari on 14 January in distress and on the following day the patron and three witnesses testified about the ordeal before the Genoese consul, declaring that the vessel now required full recaulking and repair before any further passage to Malta.
