A shipment of various merchandise loaded in Marseille that included crates of books, bales of goatskins, almonds, cotton, mirrors, and other items bound for Genoa. The ship encountered deteriorating weather conditions and was forced to take shelter in the port of Savona, arriving there late on 28 August. Due to persistent bad weather, the vessel remained docked, and the crew inspected the bilge on the evening of 29 August, finding it completely dry. However, by the morning of 30 August, they discovered that approximately three 'palms' (about 75 cm) of water had collected in the bilge, despite no clear source of flooding from the hull, indicating that rainwater from a heavy downpour during the night had infiltrated the hold. Upon investigation, it was found that much of the cargo had been soaked: ten crates of books were thoroughly wet, eighteen to twenty cantares of spices were damp, and numerous other items—such as nine bales of goatskins, a bale of cotton, a bale of assorted metalware, two large mirrors with fittings, a bale of almonds, and a crate of "visco"—had suffered varying degrees of water damage. In response, the patron and his crew immediately began bailing water from the vessel to prevent further harm. He then sought and obtained permission from the local customs commissioner to unload the damaged goods and store them securely ashore. The merchandise was carefully moved into a warehouse near the mole at Savona to minimize additional loss, and the events were formally documented before a local notary that same evening.
