Some of the most pressing issues of the 21st Century relate to the unprecedented use we all make of digital information. This Challenge will provide you with opportunities to debate and critically analyse some of the legal, moral and social implications of current trends – many of which go unnoticed and are often misunderstood.

To contribute actively to this debate it is important to have first hand experience of how digital material is brought to life by organizations, and this is where this Challenge provides you with a unique opportunity. We shall be working with real materials and developing relevant practical skills alongside active researchers and renown organisations such the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), TATE, the Bill Douglas Centre, and Exeter City Football Club Supporters Trust, all of whom are actively involved in digitally archiving our heritage.

Working with experts will allow us to ask questions about the distinctive features of “live” infinite archives, explore the role of social media, and ask what our concerns should be in terms of democracy and representation, copyright and ownership.

The Challenge will culminate in presentations from small groups relating to the challenges and opportunities working with digital archives can offer us as individuals.
