Notes

1. The unusually tight spacing of the prefix changing this word from ten to eleven suggests it was added later. On the verso only ten villages are mentioned. [BACK]

2. The unusually tight word spacing and odd and extra dot placement suggest this total amount was altered from five hundred and fifty. In the particulars on the verso in one place only five hundred and fifty bighas of land are mentioned. [BACK]

3. This amount is written in siyaq above the line. [BACK]

4. Neither the number of villages nor the quantity of land specified here in siyaq numerals matches that recorded in the text on the recto. [BACK]

5. This appears to be altered from 550. [BACK]

6. It is unusual that the location of the land is not specified. This fact, combined with the clearly different hand used to write this entry, suggests it is a later addition or forgery. [BACK]

7. It is unusual that the location of the gardens is not specified. This fact, combined with the clearly different hand used to write this entry, suggests it is a later addition or forgery. [BACK]

8. Endorsements on the verso sometimes include single Persian letters below the main inscription. Most common are the letters mim, dal and fe. There is debate over what these letters mean. [BACK]
