Notes

1. This date is the year the seal was issued and corresponds to 1781–82 CE. This suggests that the document was copied in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. [BACK]

2. It appears that there are two impressions of the same seal on the document. [BACK]

3. The scribe has likely made an error here, writing Ahsan instead of Hasan. The name Hasan is given in 1690 Order of Fath Jang Khan granting the office of deshmukhi and 8 villages to the landlords Lodi and Hasan. [BACK]

4. In comparison with the related document, this may be اباد [BACK]

5. Both mauzaʿ and qiryat mean village, but here the former is used to specify the revenue unit and the latter is used as a label or 'counting word.' [BACK]

6. This is presumably the same village spelled as Tamana in the 1690 document Order of Fath Jang Khan granting the office of deshmukhi and 8 villages to the landlords Lodi and Hasan. [BACK]

7. The scribe wrote thirty, but from context this is an error for three. [BACK]

8. this is likely an error for مانوس [BACK]

9. There is probably an abjad word play in this line. [BACK]
