Notes: Entered into the Stationer's Register 5 December 1602 [ESTC]. Despite this, it includes a 2-page dedication addressed 'To the High and Mightie Prince James, by the Grace of God King of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, defendor of the faith &c.', which must have been composed after 26 March 1603. Subsequent editions in 1610, 1621, 1631 and 1638 all retain the same dedication. Knolles refers to the recent death of Elizabeth I, 'the reare Phoenix of her sex', and alludes to James I's 'Lepanto', his poem about the battles between 'Christian confederat princes' and 'the Othoman Kings'.
