Description
Lichfield played no part in the original story of the Mayflower, as far as we know - though leading Pilgrim Edward Winslow was born not that far away in Droitwich. Nonetheless, like other places, this small city was one of many to play a small part in the 350th anniversary of the voyage in 1970 - albeit a minor one in comparison to places like Plymouth. In late summer, the Brown-Pembroke Chorus of Brown University (from Providence, Rhode Island) - according to the Lichfield Mercury 'one of the most famous university choirs in America' - gave a concert in the Cathedral during their tour around England.
