Description
Duxbury Hall was thought to be built on the same site as the birthplace of Miles Standish, whose imagined unrequited affection for Patricia Mullins was invented and immortalised by Longfellow. Duxbury Hall itself was to be the site of a visit by the Anglo-American Society in September 1920. Sadly the visit had to be cancelled due to the death of the owner of the house, Percival Sumner Mayhew (though there was interest in 'Standish Country' more broadly). Mayhew had occupied the Standish Pew at the Chorley Parish Church, where he was buried.
Duxbury Hall’s coach house is all that remains from the original mansion.
