| Description | |
The Leone, seeing that the Warship and other merchantmen have raised sail on the foremast, attempts to do the same, which results in the mast breaking in three places, and consequent damage to sails and rigging. With the mast fallen overboard and threatening to capsize the ship, the crew have to cut the ropes that are binding the wreckage to the boat. |

| Transcription: | Et durando detta burrasca sempre più furiosa ritrovandosi il di 25 del medesimo mese alle 23 hore diciotto leghe in circo lontano dalla Sardegna senza di haver mai possuto in qual’giorno fino a quel’hora tenere spieghate altri vele che la maestra, vedendo che la predetta nave di guerra haveva spiaghato di piu la vela di Trinchetto e che assieme con l’altri navi di mercanzia faceva maggio camino di quello faceva la nave del signore comparente, per tanto per non perdere il convoio con il consiglio de suoi ufficiali e marinari e per benefitio universale fece anche esso spiegare La sua vela di trinchetto, facendo con esse tal forza che di li a tre hore si ruppe improvisamente in tre pezzi l’albero di trinchetto il quale con tutte le sue vele cioe’ di trinchetto, parrochetto, pappafico, strale di gabbia, coltellaccio di parrocchetto con tutto il loro sarchiame e le bigotte di sopravento cascò allo mare, restando attaccato alle bigotte di sottovento et altri sarchiami che restavano nella nave, per la quale rottura e caduta la predetta nave et era in evidentissimo pericolo di sommergersi e perdersi con tutto il suo carico che cio’ il s. comparente con il consiglio de suoi ufficiali e marinari per salvare la medessima nave e carico e per benefitio universale fece tagliare con accette dette bigotte et altri sarchiami, che erano attacatti a l’albero predetto. |
