Storm involving north-westerly wind and snow reduced visibility to practically nothing. They were forced to cut the two main topsails and then with the weather worsening they were forced to cut the foremast and then the mainsail. The ship was unbalanced, with the door to the cargo hold below the waterline. Jettisoning cargo had no effect: It was therefore necessary once more to cut the main mast. They decided to head towards the land and without any sails arrived back at the port. |

| Transcription: | 5 detto a ora 9 alla spagnola la mattina, hebbimo un gran borasca [sic] di vento et neve che non si poteva vedere ne terra ne altre ben che eramo lontano da archangelo in circa 30 lige de modo che butta due vele de gabie besogniava [sic] livare, in mentre il tempo ingrossavo de modo che besogniava ancho [sic] salvare la trinchetta et verso la sera parimente il vela magior sendo il vento du maestra et tuttavia ingrossava il burascha si che per il gran tempo et innumerabili colpe de mare resto battuta la nave che remasse sopra una banda buttato il carrico senza potersene più dritzare [sic] e cosi stava la nave alla banda con le bocca porta della stiva sempre sotto acqua il che per rindritzarla [sic] eramo necessitato de tagliare l’albere magiore con tatto il sarchiamo et vele e poi per fare dare la volta la nave versa terra [besognase?] mettere de novo la trenchetta et vele de [prude?] stante che non se poteva detta nave non piu per duminare [sic] et nel istessa tempo che detta nave come sopra stava sotto acqua non si poteva manegiare ne scotte ne altre [c?] de che con gran travaglia del dette vele et [c?] besognata tagliare per levarse de magior danno e cosi senza vele a pocho a pocho andavano in terra et a meso giorno arivavamo alla [Barra] |
