On 30th September, about 100 leagues from the Azores, the ship got caught in a large storm which lasted for half a day and saw waves coming right over the ship. However, the ship emerged unscathed. On 5th October they encounted a Dutch/Flemish corsair. In the ensuing battle the mast of the ship was struck, the shrouds were cut, the little boat was lost and the large boat was broken. The captain was injured and the crew took casualties, powder was spent, and the corsairs took some sugar and tobacco.
In Alicante they waited 4 days to unload some tabacco for a Giovanni Hibens but were informed that he was stuck in Valencia. The captain was about to unload anyway but after seeing a fleet of Spanish warships on the horizon the captain decided to make sail (only Spanish traffic was technically allowed to be carrying goods from Barbados). The captain tried to unload the cargo to another boat in the middle of the sea - but a Spanish ship appeared and the captain made for Livorno.
This case does not contain a full calcolo but rather a list of cargoes
that arrived at Livorno (with many of the spaces for valuation left
blank) and a list of cargoes that were missing. The ships value is not recorded while the list of cargoes does specify freight rates but since there is no calcolo there is no
contributing and non-contributing value figures. Not all values have
been entered in the manifesto made in Livorno hence the total freights
cannot be calculated.
