The Cavallo Marino left Alessandretta in November of 1668 and soon encountered a storm. After the storm the bilge was full of water and it was deemed necessary to land at Baffa to carry out impromptu repairs. The biggest expenses were that of the mast, which broke while the captain was making all sail to round the point, and a rope, which had to be left behind on leaving for fear that it might cause the ship to be dragged towards some rocks. Does not mention fees and gifts rendered to locals as a result of this stop (these can be found in separate list of expenses).

The ship then proceeded to Zante where it encountered another storm and where it had to make another supposedly unscheduled stop, again incurrring new expenses. The next event narrated by the consolato is the ship’s safe arrival in Livorno but the report of expenses shows that a stop was made in Porto Vecchio where a few more minor expenses were incurred such as anchorage and gifts to the guards (since this does not appear to have been a stop necessitated by adverse conditions it is surprising that anchorage should be put into the Average).

The events in the consolato account for the 537 pieces awarded as part of the GA, but this is in fact just one of the three different damages separately awarded by the sentence, the others being 324 pieces paid to the French nation for an Avania levied by the Turks and another 404 pieces paid to the deputies of the nation for the ‘attestation of the consul’.
