The San Spirito e San Pietro set off from Porto Badino with a cargo of beans bound for Livorno. It took shelter in Gaeta for a few days to avoid bad weather and make repairs to the mast and then made two stops at Civita Vecchia, again after bad weather. After reaching Monte Argentario a storm forced the ship to head towards the island of Giglio.

When the wind then started blowing from the South and South West it was forced to head towards Lungone (Porto Azzurro). The force of the wind broke the yardarm of the foremast, and the where forced to cut away the mainsail with a lateen sail and the foresail. The master took council with his mariners and they decided to make a jettison, the captain beginning by throwing overboard the ship’s oven. They then jettisoned two ropes, two anchors, some wine, some water and about 60 rubbia of beans. The master made his consolato at Lungone (Porto Azzurro).
