The Santa Maria Buona Ventura loaded with grain coming from Agrigento to Livorno or Viareggio carrying cargo for two merchants from Pisa/Florence. Around 30 miles from Sciacca the boat encountered a storm with north-westerly winds and they were forced to run before it. About 50 miles from Malta they made a jettison.

They made their consolato at Malta then continued the journey to Livorno. Here they initiated the average procedure. In the meantime they were instructed to continue to Viareggio. Here a supercargo assisted the unloading of the grain and gave a report on the damage.
