Objections
Two experts, one a captain and the other likely a master craftsman, were appointed to ajudge the extent of the damages and reckoned them at Pezze 955:9:4. A 'curatore' was appointed to represent the merchant interests and provided a series of exceptions, objecting to the case on the grounds that 1) the things in the consolato were not true 2) the captain was not legally competent in such matters 3) the the captain did not observe the correct form 4) the damages did not actually benefit the merchants and they were therefore not obliged to contribute towards their offsetting.  In the event the Consuls compromised, upholding the request of the captain but reducing the amount to be paid in average to 500 pieces.
