The boat was loaded with grain at Terracina and destined for Genova. It made departure on the evening of the 26th of February but the following morning encountered heavy weather with winds from the south and heavy rain. The ship thus stopped in the port of Gaeta to await better weather and left again on the 4th of March. At Capo Linaro more heavy weather was encountered with wind from the south, and the ship took to Civita Vecchia to avoid the threat of the storm. Afterwards winds from the north presented the voyage from being continued until the 13th of March.
The ship then proceeded until ‘Saturday’ when the crew saw two square-rigged ships which they thought might be corsairs. They thus took shelter at Lugone until the 17th. That evening, in open water about 10 miles from the ‘Torre S. Vincenzo’ (about half way between Piombino and Livorno) the two square-sailed vessels were again spotted.
The ship headed towards the land to avoid detection but, about midnight, got stuck on some shoals. They began to load cargo into the lifeboat in order to lighten the ship, but with wind and waves picking up they decided, with the consent of officers and crew, to jettison grain. They jettisoned 50 Rubbi of grain, 6 Rubbi of chickpeas, one of beans, and the hearth. One of the anchors was lost in the attempt to ‘scagliarsi’ lift themselves off the shoal. With the ship finally free the crew set to bailing out and the captain deemed that the ship was too far damaged to continue its journey. The ship therefore put into Livorno on the 18th of March.
