The Alice and Frances set off from England as part of a convoy composed of three merchant ships and two warships carrying diverse cargo destined for Livorno, Napoli, Messina and Smirna. 5 leagues of the coast of Malaga they encountered seven Algerian corsairs and a battle ensued which lasted almost 2 days. The English ships succeeded in driving off the corsairs, at which point the ship put in at Alicante to make repairs and so that captain could make his consolato.
