The ship set off from North Africa on 10 March and proceded to the Gulf of ‘Lione’ where it encountered a storm with winds from the west and south-west. The crew were set to bailing out with barrels and buckets, there apparently being no pump. With water entering below the deck a consulation between the crew was made and it was decided to make a jettison. They started with things on deck, such as a rope and the ship’s oven. They then moved on to the things below the hold, 10 cantara of dates and 50 barrels of olives.

The wind then calmed down and the stopped jettisoning. The next day, at the Isola di San Pietro, about 50 miles away from Sardignia, another storm rose up with winds from the North and North-West, with a stormy sea and snow. The ship was forced to go where the wind would take it and once again the crew were set to bailing out. The crew were calling for something to be done to save them after every damage and after another consulation it was decided to make a second jettison this time much larger. Once the ship was lightened it fared better and with variable weather conditions it made it into Livorno on 29 March.
