This paper discusses increased levels of Shia violence, the threat of this to the coalition’s forces and Iran’s involvement. Scholars can gain significant insight into the threats faced by the coalition from this document as it discusses the coordinated and organised action of the Mahdi Army, a Shia militant army. This demonstrates the extent of resistance the coalition faced on multiple fronts and from multiple groups.
