Note to Bush 12.9.2001
Sent the day after 9/11, this note contains the 3 goals of Britain in engaging in the US ‘War on Terror’
This note is most useful for understanding why and how Iraq became a target for the US and Britain by 2003. Section 2 details “the political agenda against international terrorism” which identifies concerns surrounding the growth Islamic extremism, the trading of WMDs and the financing of terrorist groups within the wider Middle East. These are all activities that the US and Britain became aware of within Iraq and sought to counter through sanctions and then the invasion.
